May Funnies

5.2.11
Talking to Callie after tucking her into bed after a rough day of disciplining.

Me: I'm just sad Callie.
Callie: why?
Me: well, sister disobeyed a lot today which makes me sad.
Callie: does Callie make mommy sad too?
Me: yes, sometimes.  When you disobey it makes me sad.
Callie: yeah, because sometimes Callie just needs to be little.

Me: callie what is that green stuff on your shirt?
Callie: It's called Play dough, mom (duh)

We are putting a new pump and filter on our pool, but of course something goes wrong, and Nate gets completely soaked.  Callie sees him getting wet and runs over to him and says, "Daddy, your shirt is all wet."  Thanks Callie, Daddy has a hard time knowing when he's wet:)

Walking into walmart on a non windy day where the building has an American flag at the top
Callie: Look mommy, the flag is broken.  It's not working.  They need to get a new one.

I'm trying on a nursing pillow that I bought at a garage sale
Callie: mommy, is that for baby brother?
Me: yep
Callie: what is it for?
Me: Baby brother will lay on it and drink milk from mommy.
Callie: what?
Me: Mommy will make milk from her chest and baby brother will drink it.
Callie: will you make it chocolate?

Super Dad

I have to praise Nate.  Maybe I should save this post for Father's Day, but let's live in the moment.  Nate is an awesome Dad.  I know I've said this before, but his girls are the light of his life.  Before we had kids, he would see a dad and his child and comment on how fun that must be.  We were only married 2 years when Callie was born, and guess who was the one pushing to have children so soon.  Today, Nate described himself as a magnet, which illustrates well how the girls act towards him.  Nate works nights, so when he get's home at 4 or 5 in the morning he goes to bed and sleeps his 8 hours.  Now the 4 or 5 hours that the girls and I are awake, and Nate is sleeping, I constantly hear, "Mommy, can I go wake daddy up?"  "Mommy, I want to go show daddy my pretty dress."  "Mommy, I'm going to go show daddy my picture I drew."  "Mommy, is it time to wake daddy up yet?"  "Mommy, I think it's time to go wake daddy up."  And when I finally ask them, "you guys want to go wake up your daddy?"  It sounds like a traveling band going up the stairs and opening daddy's door and crawling up in his bed.  Plus, the talk never stops..."Daddy, look at my pretty dress."  "Daddy, we ate donuts this morning; I had sprinkles."  "Daddy, let's go swimming."  "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.."  :)
And the times where Nate doesn't get woken up by them and comes downstairs on his own...it's kind of like a dog that is always happy to see his owner come home, but 100 times louder and cuter.  Callie in particular is a daddy's girl.  I think she loves salads because the lettuce was grown from daddy's garden.  She endures freezing swimming pool water because Daddy put the pool up and works on it.  She spent 2 plus hours bowling because Daddy was bowling.  She has a garden in her sandbox because Daddy has a garden.  She loves Lowe's because Daddy takes her there.  He is definitely the light in her eyes too.
Sometimes I think that it's because I'm the stay at home parent, so I'm dealing with more of those daily hard parenting situations, which makes me a not as fun parent.  However, he's the one that works and comes home tired and doesn't always get his sleep, yet still gets on the floor and wrestles around with these two girls and throws them in the air and let's them walk on the ceiling and takes them on his trips to the store and includes them in his work on the garden and yard... I appreciate the love he shows the girls, and I'm okay with not being the fun one.  I know he misses out on a lot because he provides for our family...the funny things they say and do.  However, I think him being a "magnet" and feeling how much they adore and love him, makes up for it.
He's super dad.  In old photos, my dad can be seen wearing a shirt that has the superman logo, but instead says, "super dad".  I had another one made for him back when I was in college...maybe I should have one made for Nate.

Relief

So I learned that the more kids you have the more false labor you have.  I read that in a book, and my midwife confirmed it with me last week.  A week ago I was having labor pains.  I get freaked out about labor pains because last time I didn't freak out and almost delivered Elliott in the car.  Seriously, if our hospital wasn't one exit down from our house, the Camry would never be the same.  But all is well, the midwife checked me on Wednesday and discovered nothing..praise God.  With the last two pregnancies I had longed for delivery day..it could not come soon enough.  With Callie, I was a big blimp and retained so much water from eating too much crappy food, so I was miserable and hot and impatient.  I cried every night that last week, but I went into labor on her due date and had her the next day.  I didn't have the swelling and pains of pregnancy with Elliott, but I was VERY anxious to the point of despair for her to come out so my dying mother-in-law could see her.  She came 3 days after my due date, and Angie did get to see and hold her :)  And I thought I wanted an early arrival for this baby, I mean, who wouldn't want to meet the baby they have been waiting on for months a little early (as long as baby's healthy of course)? But, after that false labor and the idea that he could come sooner than planned...i freaked out.  I do have things ready.  I have all his bedding and clothes washed.  I have a series of 2 week meals planned out w/the appropriate shopping lists.  I have instructions printed out for whoever will watch the girls while I'm delivering.  I even have an armful of casseroles and easy breakfast foods sitting nicely in the deep freeze.  We are ready...but I think I still want a little more time with just me and the girls.  I know when baby boy comes, I'll wonder how in the world did we get along with out him, but the immediate transition to 3 will bring small changes to our daily routine.  First off, I'll be tired and not as fun.  I probably won't be giving the girls their baths for awhile or painting their nails whenever they ask (we're painting them tomorrow!), or doing fun crafts, or getting in the pool without daddy, or cooking meals together.....I wish I could take advantage of every moment, and I'm going to try these next weeks to dote on my girls, because tired mommy is coming soon and tired mommy is a no fun mommy.
